Navigating the Space Between

The space between who we were, who we are, and who we aspire to become… this is where transformation lives. Change may be our destination, but the journey requires courage, commitment, and compassion for ourselves along the way.

What Therapy Looks Like

Over time, therapy can offer subtle but profound gifts. You may find yourself:

  • Taking a breath before responding, rather than reacting automatically.

  • Growing curious about long-standing patterns and the reasons behind them.

  • Sitting with difficult emotions instead of avoiding or numbing them.

  • Questioning beliefs about yourself that no longer serve you.

What may begin as small shifts often creates a ripple effect, reshaping how you relate to yourself, others, and the world.

Understanding Your Journey

Healing rarely begins with a quick and dramatic resolution. Instead, it starts with a gentle shift in perspective, a willingness to explore familiar patterns with fresh eyes, and the gradual softening of old defenses.

Like the ocean's tides, the most profound changes often occur beneath the surface long before they become visible to others.

Your emotional perspective is influenced by countless unseen forces—past experiences, biological rhythms, learned responses, and deeply held beliefs about yourself and the world. Becoming aware of these internal currents is where healing begins.

Meet Kristin

With more than 17 years of experience in mental health and addiction care, I bring not only clinical expertise but also deep empathy and respect for every story shared in my office.

My journey in leadership began as the Executive Director of a highly regarded Malibu detox and residential treatment center, supporting people through substance use, trauma, and complicated mental health experiences.

This foundation taught me that every person’s challenges are unique, and so is their capacity for healing.

The Process of Healing

Think of therapy as thoughtfully renovating a home you've lived in your entire life. From the outside, everything might appear functional, and even comfortable.

But when you slow down and look more closely, you begin to notice things that need attention. The foundation should be stronger, the electrical and plumbing systems need updating, or the rooms you avoided organizing because they felt too overwhelming.

You may have made some quick repairs over the years, but they were only temporary fixes that needed immediate attention. Like your home repairs, you may have closed off parts of yourself that felt too painful to face. But deep down, you know that lasting change requires more than quick fixes and surface-level solutions.

True renovation of a home, like meaning personal transformation, takes time, patience, and a willingness to examine what lies beneath. It can feel messy and uncomfortable at times, but the discomfort is often a sign that meaningful work is happening. The alternative - continuing to live in a place that doesn’t serve your needs and desires - carries its own cost.

Your Therapeutic Experience

Therapy isn't a quick fix or a single-session solution. It's a collaborative process that unfolds over time, requiring honesty, consistency, and courage from both of us.

You'll experience victories and setbacks, breakthroughs and quiet periods. This is all part of the natural rhythm of growth and healing.

Over time, something within you shifts. You begin to feel more at home in yourself, less reactive, more grounded, and more intentional in shaping the life you're here to live.

Through our work, you learn to revisit and restore the parts of yourself you may have closed off, restoring them into spaces of resilience, meaning, and possibility.

Specialized Support for Your Unique Needs

Whether you're struggling with grief, addiction, depression, or thoughts of suicide, you don't have to walk this path alone. I specialize in supporting teens and adults through some of life's most challenging experiences, including:

  • Grief is not something one can simply “get over,” but rather it is a nonlinear process to navigate with support, compassion, and patience. In our work, we create space for the full range of emotions that come with losing someone or something important, honoring what was while helping you gradually reorient to life in its absence

  • Sexual compulsivity often emerges from unmet emotional needs, unresolved trauma, and deep-rooted shame, not moral failing. Together, we explore the underlying dynamics with curiosity and care, using evidence-based tools and a nonjudgmental space to support insight, accountability, and sustainable change

  • I hold safety as foundational in working with suicidal ideation, protecting life while honoring the pain beneath the desire to die. Together, we explore that pain with care, curiosity, and compassion, allowing it to become a catalyst for meaning-making, deeper self-understanding, and the possibility of reengaging with life on new terms.

  • Substance use is often an attempt to cope with pain, regulate emotion, and fill an inner void. Our work focuses not just on stopping the behavior, but on understanding what it’s been trying to soothe so that healing can happen from the inside out.

  • Depression is more than sadness; it can feel like disconnection from self, others, and the world. In our work, we explore what’s underneath the weight, helping you to make sense of it and ultimately finding a path forward that feels authentic and sustainable.

  • I tailor my approach to your specific needs, challenges, and goals.

Moving Forward Together

Remember, everyone's journey is unique. Change doesn't always have to be agonizing. Sometimes the greatest pain comes from staying in a place that doesn't allow for growth and improvement.

While healing can require hard work, it's work that leads to freedom, being true to yourself, and cultivating a deeper sense of self-worth.

If you're ready to begin navigating the space between where you are and where you want to be, I'm here to walk with you on your journey.
